Approaching the end of the 2018 Summer Camp
It was just over a month ago when we were busy getting things prepared for the start of the 2018 Summer Camp, and now having passed the fifth week, we are approaching the end of the 2018 Summer Camp.
This past week many students have returned home and to their countries and though it was really sad to see them off, the lasting friendship established has all been worthwhile.
During the past 7 days, students have enjoyed really exciting football games with the Spanish and English teachers Oscar and Aaron respectively organizing the matches.
Once again arts & crafts has been really popular. We have introduced a clay workshop and the pieces of artwork produced were left to dry and painted and finished off the following day; with a little background music, members of the Lions and Eagles teams, assisted by Roberto -one of the monitors, enjoyed themseleves and showed us how creative they are.
With the original idea by Marta and Manuela-Spanish and English teachers respectively, the younger students have outlined their names onto the lovely drawings they had painted.
Yoga has been the new activity this week. Our English teacher and Summper Camp Director, Anna, tells us how she came up with the idea: ” Ever since taking charge of the Summer Camp I have missed working directly with the children as a lot of my time is spent on the day-to-day running of the Summer Camp, and as a result I get to spend very little time with them. Some of my students had found out that I practice yoga and they insisted that I should introduce it as an activity and that is what I did. It has proved to be so popular that we have had 2 sessions in 3 days. It’s incredible how this form of meditation and relaxations appeals to the majority.”
Anna goes on to tell us more about the Summer Camp, ” Words cannot explain how I feel about the Summer Camp. I feel really fortunate to be in charge of this project, not only on a personal level but also for the opportunity to experience such an incredible event. A lot of hard work goes into it all and no words can express my gratitude to all members of staff for the incredible job they are doing; and that includes right from the drivers who drop the kids off first thing in the morning to the teachers and monitors who give their 100% every day, and to those who make sure we have everything we need, and of course the office staff who make our job a whole lot easier.
It can be tiring, but then you see how the children are enjoying their time and how they rush to tell me about their anecdotes or just simply there to give me a hug; it’s these simple things that make my tiredness fade away and make it all worthwhile.”
Last Saturday we had our last excursion to Selwo Marina in Benalmadena. At this marine animal zoo the children have enjoyed a dolphin show and seen how penguins are fed. Seeing how they enjoyed this unique experience made the early morning rise worthwhile.
