The beginner student can convey only very basic information and can understand simple predictable language.
    Basic User


A1 (Elementary)

The elementary student can understand and use very basic phrases, and interact in a simple way provided the interlocutor talks slowly and is prepared to help.


A2 (Lower Intermediate)

The lower/pre- intermediate student can understand frequently used expressions and can communicate in simple and routine situations. He/she can convey basic information in writing.

B1 (Intermediate)

The intermediate student can understand and use a variety of language functions to exchange information, relate experience and events, and describe things, people and places. He/she can write simple connected text on familiar topics. Equivalent to IELTS 3.5 to 4.5


B2 (Upper Intermediate)

The upper- intermediate student can communicate effectively in English and hold a satisfying conversation with a native speaker. He/she has little comprehension difficulty and can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects. Students at this level could hope to achieve an IELTS score of 5.0 to 6.0.
   Proficient user


C1 (Advanced)

The advanced student can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously with a good degree of control and uses sophisticated vocabulary up to a degree. Written language is effective and appropriate. Students at this level could hope to achieve an IELTS score 6.5 to 7.0.


C2 (Proficiency)

The very advanced student has reached a level which not all learners can aspire to. He/she has mastered all the essential grammatical forms of the language and can incorporate them in active use with fluency and precision. He/she can understand with ease almost everything heard or read, and produce coherent and complex writing with shades of meaning. Students at this level could hope to achieve an IELTS score of 7.5 or above.
